ABOUT US  ---  SPEEDWAY HORSESHOE LEAGUES

The Horse Shoe leagues are operated in the town of Speedway, Indiana on courts located in the Leonard Park behind the Fire House at 1500 North Lyndhurst Drive.     Map

There are eight lighted courts at this location.

The 2012 summer season will include Tuesday and Wednesday night leagues.  League play for 2012 began in early May  and continued through to the end of middle of August (16 weeks).

The Wednesday summer league, a learning/instructional league. In 2011 it consisted of six "2-man" teams.  It's format differs somewhat from that of the Tuesday league.

A Fall league is also planned for 2012.

The Count-All scoring system is used, with team play and competition, and with all players receiving handicaps based upon their league averages so as to level-the-field where there is a range of pitching skills.

In the Count-All scoring a Ringer shoe is worth 3 points, and 1 point is awarded for any non-ringer shoe that is within 6 inches of the stake.  All shoes that conform to this scoring criteria are included in the player's score.  There is no cancellation in this format.

Three games are pitched each night, each game consisting of 25 frames wherein each player pitches two shoes; i.e. 50 shoes per game per player.  Two teams compete on each court, with each team fielding one player on the North end and one player on the South end.  There is no walking.  Points are awarded to the team winning each game competition on each court.

Warm-up and court preparation begins about 6:00 PM.  The official starting time is 6:30 PM; and, the pitching of three games requires about two and one-half hours.

In the 4-man leagues each of the teams "pitch" four players for each game, but they may have as many as six players  on their team roster. The leagues permit the teams to be made up of men, women, and/or juniors. Substitutes are also available to fill the needs.

The Speedway leagues are operated independent of any state and national Horse Shoe Pitching Association.  Members of the Speedway leagues can, however, also choose to become members of the AHPA or the NHPA.  In so doing they would then be eligible to pitch in the Weekly and State Chanpionship AHPA or NHPA  tournaments.

This web site's purpose is to weekly provide information and the current standings for the Speedway leagues, plus schedule information about the Indiana weekly tournaments and the final State tournament events.
